Postdoctoral position summary/title: Postdoctoral Associate (Environmental and Public Health).

The Department of Environmental and Public Health at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Postdoctoral Associate. The Postdoctoral Associate will become an investigator on an NHLBI-funded R01, Neighborhood Greenness and Cardiometabolic Health among Hispanics in the Hispanic Community Health Study/Study of Latinos, and in a pending NIA R01, Greenness, Cognitive Performance and Vascular Outcomes in the Northern Manhattan Study (NOMAS). The Postdoctoral Associate will be responsible for working on all aspects of the studies including regulatory matters, liaise with the coordinating centers, data management and analyses, writing manuscripts for publication, and supporting and developing grant applications for the NIH. This position will be supervised by Drs. Scott Brown and Jose Szapocznik who are highly experienced built environment/chronic disease investigators.

This team of investigators is comprised of molecular geneticists, neurologists, bioinformaticians, and statistical and genetic epidemiologists who work together on studies related to AD. The qualified candidate will work on research directed towards identifying genes and the mechanisms that they influence to increase the risk and outcomes associated with AD. This position is for Dr. Sannisha Dale’s SHINE (Strengthening Health through INnovation and Engagement) Research Program. The post-doc will be responsible for overseeing day to day research activities and supervising staff for studies related to the SHINE Research Program, which is centered around HIV prevention and treatment in marginalized communities, trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder, adherence to treatment for chronic illnesses, and structural issues (e.g. racism). Two primary projects at the time of hire include (1) an NIMH-funded grant on microaggressions, discrimination, reoccurring violence and resilience among Black women living with HIV and (2) an NIMH-funded grant implementation grant that involves direct engagement with community residents, businesses, and health organizations in local neighborhoods during weekdays, evenings, and weekends.

The Postdoctoral Associate will be overseeing a translational peripheral nerve injury project. This project will investigate the ability of a second-generation nerve conduits to deliver Schwann cells and Schwann cell products to nerve stumps in severe peripheral nerve injury model. Specific tasks will include handling animals (rats), microsurgery, behavioral analysis, tissue preparation, histology, data analysis, manuscript preparation, and more. Funding will also be provided for a research assistant who will work under the Postdoctoral Associate. Members of the research team will be expected to meet weekly to discuss progress. Additionally, the Postdoctoral Associate should be in close communication with Dr. Allan Levi and Dr. Shelby Burks
