Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Position in Epilepsy and Neuro-Developmental Disorders (ENDD)

The Heller Lab studies the mechanisms by which epigenetic remodeling regulates gene function, in the context of neuropsychiatric and neurodevelopmental diseases. We are currently seeking a postdoctoral fellow to contribute to our work on rare, genetic Epilepsies and Neuro-Developmental Disorders (ENDD therapeutics team). This project will focus on the mechanisms by which epigenetic remodeling regulates gene function and the use of epigenetic editing tools, such as CRISPR/dCas9-fusion proteins, for the correction of such gene deficiencies. While these approaches hold potential to treat a variety of neurodevelopmental disorders, our current focus is encephalopathy caused by mutations in STXBP1 and SYNGAP1.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc developing targeted protein therapeutics for acute critical illnesses

We engineer targeted therapeutics for the treatment of acute critical illnesses, such as ARDS (the acute lung inflammation that kills in COVID-19), sepsis, stroke, and more. We employ the tools of protein engineering and nanomedicine to conjugate affinity moieties (e.g., antibodies and their derivatives) to therapeutics, in order to localize them to their site of action. We test these in mouse models of acute critical illness, as well as large animal models, and in ex vivo human organs that were deemed unsuitable for organ transplant.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Researchers

The Kahn Lab (http://www.med.upenn.edu/kahnlab/) is looking for talented postdoctoral researchers to join our interdisciplinary team of investigators studying signaling pathways in cardiovascular development and disease. We are specifically interested in signaling mechanisms involved with hemodynamics and vascular homeostasis, lymphatic development and disease, as well as well as cerebral cavernous malformations. We have also recently generated new mouse models that express human ACE2 and enable us to study SARS-CoV-2 infection in vivo, with the potential to study cardiovascular consequences of the disease. We combine complex mouse genetics with state-of-the-art biochemical and molecular approaches, including single cell sequencing and high level microscopy, to understand the function of these pathways during normal cardiovascular development and in postnatal disease models.

About The University of Pennsylvania, United States – Official Website

The University of Pennsylvania is a private Ivy League research university in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The university claims a founding date of 1740 and is one of the nine colonial colleges chartered prior to the U.S. Declaration of Independence. Benjamin Franklin, Penn’s founder and first president, advocated an educational program that trained leaders in commerce, government, and public service, similar to a modern liberal arts curriculum with a practical perspective.

Penn has four undergraduate schools as well as twelve graduate and professional schools. Schools enrolling undergraduates include the College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Engineering and Applied Science, the Wharton School, and the School of Nursing. Penn’s “One University Policy” allows students to enroll in classes in any of Penn’s twelve schools. Among its highly ranked graduate and professional schools are a law school whose first professor wrote the first draft of the United States Constitution, the first school of medicine in North America (Perelman School of Medicine, 1765), and the first collegiate business school (Wharton School, 1881).
