Postdoctoral position summary/title: This research project aims to fabricate miniature optoelectronic devices from lithium niobate thin films. Most current flat photonic structures are passive, here the goal is to create multifunctional active devices that can be actively tuned without changing the hardware design. The project involves the design, modelling, the fabrication of optoelectronic devices by top-down methods, the optical characterization using custom-built setups, and the development of photonic devices with nonlinear materials for sensing applications.

Postdoctoral position summary/title: The postdoctoral researcher will have access to various state-of-the art experimental systems and acquire expertise on advanced analytical techniques, including analytical electrochemistry, high-resolution mass spectrometry, and (isotope sensitive) greenhouse gas analysis. The postdoctoral researcher will further gain experience in developing new analytical approaches to characterize electron transfer reactions in peat systems, both in laboratory studies as well as in the field. The project is embedded into a larger, interdisciplinary research effort —involving also a PhD student as well as master students— that aims at advancing our understanding of peatland redox biogeochemistry.

Postdoctoral position summary/title: The Laboratory for Bone Biomechanics (LBB) within the Institute for Biomechanics (IfB) at ETH Zurich, includes 21 scientific staff organized within 4 research teams with cross-disciplinary expertise in musculoskeletal biomechanics and imaging, tissue engineering, biomaterials, mechanobiology and animal models. Professor Müller as the Head of the LBB has pioneered micro-tomographic imaging (micro-CT) of biological tissues both in vitro and in vivo, a technology that is now successfully used in hundreds of laboratories. The research the Laboratory is currently pursuing employs state-of-the-art biomechanical testing and simulation techniques, novel in vivo models and related molecular biological methods as well as bioimaging and visualization strategies for musculoskeletal tissues.

Postdoctoral position summary/title: we aim to understand the interactions of nanoplastic and microplastic particles and fibers made from conventional and biodegradable polymers with soils and assess the impact of plastic on basic soil processes and function. We plan to elucidate how the presence of (micro)plastic affects plant-microbiome-soil interactions under current climate conditions, as well as under heat and water stresses. Several experimental variants will be performed to determine which factor(s) may have the strongest impacts on physiochemical differences throughout the system, including plant growth and fitness, soil wetness and soil respiration.
