(06) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in experimental ultracold ion trap physics II

Based on an existing linear Paul trap with an integrated dual frequency high-finesse optical cavity, the research will focus on investigations of many-body quantum phenomena in the interaction of ultracold ions in the form of smaller Coulomb crystals and single photons. The plan is to apply one of the resonant cavity frequencies to pin the ions off-resonantly and, e.g., carrying out ground state sideband cooling of all ions similar to standard single ion cooling, while the other resonant cavity field will be applied to create novel single photon induced quantum correlated spin-motional states through resonant interactions with the ions.

(07) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in experimental ultracold ion trap physics I

With the aim of setting up a novel experiment for the investigation of ultracold ion-atom interactions and “supermolecule” in the form of several ultracold atoms bound to a single ion by induced polarization forces, the research will initially be focused on sideband laser cooling of a single Ba+ ion to it motional quantum mechanical ground state in an existing cryogenically cooled linear Paul trap. The work will as well include optimization of key parameter for ultracold ion-neutral experiments, such as excess micromotion and motional heating rates. Alongside with these experimental challenges, the successful candidate will take part in designing the full ultracold ion-atom setup as well as take sympathetic ground state cooling of a range of smaller biorelevant ions such as charged amino acids.
