PhD position summary/title: PhD scholarship within Lightwave Electronics in Graphene Devices.

DTU wish to employ a PhD student for 36 months to carry out research in terahertz-driven electronics based on high-quality graphene devices, and study their time-resolved ballistic transport properties. These investigations pave the way for “lightwave electronics”; a route to high-speed processing using “light” pulses to generate transient currents in electronic devices and read out the response using microscale antennas.

PhD position summary/title: PhD scholarship in Integrated Photonic Circuits for All-Optical Reservoir Computing.

Your Ph.D. project will be hosted within the OPTIC-AI team, part of the Machine Learning in Photonic Systems group at DTU Fotonik. 

Within the OPTIC-AI team (3 PhD students, 1 Postdoc and PI), you will work bridging between the numerical analysis of optimized integrated photonic circuits and the design of the circuits’ layout for fabrication in commercial foundries. The project will start by focusing on current demonstrations of optoelectronics reservoir computing and extreme machine learning to subsequently move into fully optical implementations to be realized with photonic integrated circuits (PICs).

PhD position summary/title: PhD scholarship in Pyrolysis of Waste to Synthetic Fuels on Cement Plants.

The overall aim of the PhD project will be to optimize a pyrolysis reactor system that can be applied as an integrated part of the preheater system on a cement plants. This will mainly be done by using a laboratory set-up to investigate the influence of a broad range of waste types and operation conditions with respect to obtaining high oil yield and high oil quality. PhD position summary/title: PhD project: Reuse of building components – documentation of properties by non-destructive testing.

The PhD project will focus on development of NDT with the purpose of documenting the properties of elements made from concrete, steel or wood in relation to reuse. The major research questions are: (1) Which NDT techniques can be combined to determine the properties of building components in relation to the new use? (2) Can we obtain a sufficiently detailed data interpretation for quantifying and documenting the properties? (3) Are the chosen methods applicable in practice at demolitions sites? Experimental work will be conducted ranging from laboratory scale to full scale to document the use of non-destructive testing. The supervisor team is from DTU Civil Engineering and the collaboration with the different project partners in BuildingReuse ensures continuous linkage between research and practical issues in regards to reuse of building components.

PhD position summary/title: PhD scholarship in 3D X-ray Diffraction of Solar Cell Materials.

In this project, the candidate will use 3D X-ray diffraction methods (3DXRD) that enable us to quantify the texture and strain distribution of crystalline phases in 3rd generation solar cells in the completed, functioning devices. The methods will primarily be applied to inorganic materials systems, although feasibility tests on organic materials is also foreseen.

The materials systems will be chosen to connect with new work on all-oxide tandem thin film photovoltaic devices, a sub-project which is a part of a larger project PIloT, where the aim is to develop all-oxide thin film photovoltaic (PV) devices for the Internet of Things (IoT).
