2D Nanomaterials exhibit unique properties not observed at the bulk scale, including, in some cases, piezoelectric properties. In the Elias research group, we are interested in harnessing the properties of these materials in order to develop printable electronic sensors. We are seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to join our team. This individual will be responsible for synthesizing and characterizing printable inks based on 2D nanomaterials, using these inks to fabricate sensors that can detect physical stimuli such as vibrations, and characterizing the behavior of these sensors. This work is supported by the extensive facilities available at the University of Alberta, including a Class 100 cleanroom in the U of A Nanofab. The successful candidate will receive training in the fabrication and characterization equipment required for their work.

(09) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Position In Advanced Curation Methods For Mars Sample Return

The successful candidate will work with Dr. Christopher Herd to investigate the best ways to preserve samples returned from future space missions (astromaterials), through simulations of returned sample curation and analysis. Using the University of Alberta Subzero Facility for Curation of Astromaterials, in collaboration with NASA-Johnson Space Center Curation experts, the candidate will develop and refine advanced methods of astromaterials curation, with a focus on processing of Mars samples. The University of Alberta  is a public research university located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. It was founded in 1908 by Alexander Cameron Rutherford, the first premier of Alberta, and Henry Marshall Tory, its first president. Its enabling legislation is the Post-secondary Learning Act. The university is considered a “Comprehensive academic and research university” (CARU), which means that it offers a range of academic and professional programs, which generally lead to undergraduate and graduate level credentials.

The university comprises four campuses in Edmonton, the Augustana Campus in Camrose, and a staff centre in downtown Calgary. The original north campus consists of 150 buildings covering 50 city blocks on the south rim of the North Saskatchewan River valley, directly across from downtown Edmonton. 39,000 students from Canada and 150 other countries participate in 400 programs in 18 faculties.

The University of Alberta is a major economic driver in Alberta. The university’s impact on the Alberta economy is an estimated $12.3 billion annually, or five per cent of the province’s gross domestic product.
