(07) Postdoctoral Position

Postdoctoral position summary/title: Postdoc in Vascular exchange in organs and tissues.

We are seeking an outstanding postdoctoral candidate to complement the department’s expertise in computational mechanics. The successful candidate will develop and validate computational models to predict fluid flow around and into hydrogels, and the subsequent solute diffusion inside hydrogels. The simulations should help to understand how concentration gradients inside hydrogel depend on hydrogel properties and external flow conditions. Simulation results will then be used by the clinical/medical arm of this project to optimize the vascularization conditions in the production of cerebral organoids.

(08) Postdoctoral Position

Postdoctoral position summary/title: Postdoc in crystallization for resource recovery.

The overall aim of this project is to investigate the methodologies of this particular type of crystallization process, for the purpose of increasing the underlying fundamental knowledge of e.g. the kinetics of nucleation and growth of targeted salts, the mechanisms involved in incorporation of impurities, and how to mitigate the problem of ice scaling. Two case studies from industry have been selected, which will define targeted impurities and conditions. The project will benefit from an industrial reference group and from an on-going collaboration project together with the University of Cape Town focused on crystallization for resource recovery.

Postdoctoral position summary/title: Postdoc in Multi-fidelity models for vascular problems.

As part a cross-department initiative, the department of Engineering Mechanics announces a postdoc position within the thematic area “Advanced computing and machine learning” on the topic of multi-fidelity models for vascular problems. The postdoc will be working on developing advanced methods for multifidelity simulations within the application area of vascular biomechanics. This includes the theoretical development, implementation into open-source codes, and coupling to existing vascular simulation methods. The goal is to combine experimental observations and high-fidelity simulations with low-fidelity (low-order) models to make accurate predictions for the biomechanical quantities of interest. The multifidelity models can also be very useful for uncertainty quantification (UQ) and optimisation.

Postdoctoral position summary/title: Postdoc in data-driven environmental assessment for land and air transport.

This project aims to support sustainable transport systems for healthier, smart cities by developing a multidisciplinary tool for the assessment of the cumulative environmental impact of noise and pollutant emissions from land and air transport. By merging the impact of noise and pollutant emissions from a multi-modal transport system perspective, this work will enable a refined assessment of the main contributors, leading to the implementation of truly optimal mitigation strategies. With the potential to address conflicting requirements for a sustainable transport system, such as improved traffic efficiency vs. reduced pollutant and noise emissions, the proposed project further contributes to the monitoring and definition of scenarios in the initiated transformation towards an electrified transport system

About KTH Royal Institute of Technology

KTH Royal Institute of Technology, abbreviated KTH, is a public research university in Stockholm, Sweden. KTH conducts research and education within engineering and technology, and is Sweden’s largest technical university. Currently, KTH consists of five schools with four campuses in and around Stockholm.

KTH was established in 1827 as Teknologiska Institutet (Institute of Technology), and had its roots in Mekaniska skolan (School of Mechanics) that was established in 1798 in Stockholm. But the origin of KTH dates back to the predecessor to Mekaniska skolan, the Laboratorium Mechanicum, which was established in 1697 by Swedish scientist and innovator Christopher Polhem. Laboratorium Mechanicum combined education technology, a laboratory and an exhibition space for innovations. In 1877 KTH received its current name, Kungliga Tekniska högskolan (KTH Royal Institute of Technology). The King of Sweden Carl XVI Gustaf is the High Protector of KTH.
