Postdoctoral position summary/title: Post Doctoral Scholar – Indigenous Knowledges

The Department of Comparative Studies, within the College of Arts and Sciences at The Ohio State University, invites applications for a two-year postdoctoral position in Indigenous Knowledges. Comparative Studies is a multi-disciplinary community of scholars brought together by a shared interest in how human societies organize themselves through the production of knowledge, discourses, and material practices; our work is informed by a commitment to social justice, and energized by critical questions about how justice is to be defined and how it can be realized. We seek a dynamic, innovative scholar who can demonstrate deep engagement with indigenous knowledge systems as reflected in the languages, lifeways, epistemologies, ethics, healing practices, environmental practices, and/or technologies of one or more groups. In keeping with the department’s interest in public-facing humanities projects, we also seek applicants interested in how indigenous knowledges can productively inform larger conversations in the sciences, law, public policy, heritage conversation, commerce, environmental justice movements, and/or social justice movements.

About The Ohio State University

The Ohio State University, commonly Ohio State or OSU, is a public land-grant research university in Columbus, Ohio. Founded in 1870 as the state’s land-grant university and the ninth university in Ohio with the Morrill Act of 1862, the university was originally known as the Ohio Agricultural and Mechanical College. The college originally focused on various agricultural and mechanical disciplines but it developed into a comprehensive university under the direction of then-Governor (later, U.S. president) Rutherford B. Hayes, and in 1878 the Ohio General Assembly passed a law changing the name to “the Ohio State University”. The main campus in Columbus, Ohio, has since grown into the third-largest university campus in the United States. The university also operates regional campuses in Lima, Mansfield, Marion, Newark, and Wooster.

With nearly 50,000 undergraduate students and nearly 15,000 graduate students, Ohio State is one of the largest American universities. It has an extensive student life program, with over 1,000 student organizations; intercollegiate, club and recreational sports programs; student media organizations and publications, fraternities and sororities; and three student governments. Ohio State athletic teams compete in Division I of the NCAA and are known as the Ohio State Buckeyes. The university is a member of the Big Ten Conference for the majority of sports.
