Postdoctoral position summary/title:  A postdoctoral fellow position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Hanaa Hariri to study molecular and cellular mechanisms of fatty acid metabolism. Fatty acids are essential molecules for a broad range of cellular processes including lipid signaling, biological membranes, and energy metabolism; however, they are toxic to cells when present in excess. Dysregulation of fatty acid metabolism is a hallmark of devastating chronic human pathologies including obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. The Hariri lab is focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms that spatially regulate fatty acid flux at organelle contact sites.

Postdoctoral position summary/title: A postdoctoral position is available to study mechanisms that regulate gene expression during human development and in response to endogenous and exogenous compounds. Efforts are currently focused on understanding the mechanisms regulating expression of the cytosolic sulfotransferase class of metabolizing enzymes during human liver development. Approaches will include the use of advanced cell culture models (e.g., stem cell differentiation models) and molecular technologies (e.g., RNA-seq and ATAC-seq) to understand the changes in chromatin accessibility and transcriptional regulator activity that control gene expression during cell differentiation

(05) Postdoctoral Position

Postdoctoral position summary/title: A new laboratory is now open at Wayne State that seeks to evaluate how common consumer product chemicals (flame retardants, phthalates, etc.) and their mixtures may interfere with the body’s endocrine system following exposure. The Kassotis Lab is interested in how exposure to these chemicals (and mixtures of these chemicals) may disrupt metabolic health and contribute to or exacerbate obesity and other metabolic disorders. We will pursue these aims through mechanistic cell culture experiments and medium-throughput zebrafish exposure and imaging experiments. Our ultimate goals are to assess potential human health effects following exposure to diverse environmental contaminants and mixtures. Qualified applicants will support R00 (NIEHS)-funded experiments to achieve several key aims

(17) Postdoctoral Position

Postdoctoral position summary/title:

My lab studies striated muscle function and structure, with a primary focus on cardiac relaxation (diastolic function/left ventricular relaxation). Potential research opportunities exist on two overlapping projects: Mechanical Control of Relaxation and Ultrasound Analysis of Cardiac Structure.

Mechanical Control of Relaxation utilizes live tissues from small animal models to study how conditions that control how quickly a muscle relaxes after it contracts. Both pharmacologic and genetic models are used. Additionally, molecular biology and computational modeling supplement the mechanistic studies.

Ultrasound Analysis of Cardiac Structure utilizes both in vivo and ex vivo imaging of hearts (primarily laboratory models) to determine the alignment of cells within the heart and to determine what molecular/cellular properties impact the ultrasonic (echocardiographic) signal. Significant signal processing and 3D reconstruction will be performed.
